About Me

Why Lit Lamp for the Soul?

When Jesus taught, He often used parables, stories with deep spiritual meaning. One of those is found in Matthew 25:1–13, the Parable of the Ten Virgins:

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.
2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,
4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.
5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’
7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’
10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.
11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’
12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Little did I know that this story would change my life forever.

You can read my full testimony here, but in short, God met me right where I was through this parable. He showed me that I didn’t truly know Him, and that I wasn’t prepared. I felt desperate and exposed.

That day marked a turning point in my life.

Now, my heart longs to be a light in the darkness. I want to carry a lit lamp for the soul. I hope to help others prepare to meet the Bridegroom. I don’t want anyone else to feel the hopelessness I once felt. I want to walk with people through the valleys and rejoice with them on the mountaintops. By God’s grace, I pray the Spirit of Life would light the flame in others. He has already lit it in me.

About Me

I’m a husband to my amazing wife, Francesca. Together, we have three boys: Hudson (7), Jameson (5), and Emmett (2). We love boating, baseball, music, and just being silly as a family.

While I’m certainly not yet many of the things I hope to be, I continue to pray for growth. I ask the Spirit to shape me into a better writer, speaker, theologian, and thinker if that’s what God desires. I pray He continues to sanctify me as a husband, father, teacher, and leader.

Most of all, I am a finite, imperfect, follower of Jesus Christ who desperately needs His grace each day.

This blog is simply a place to share stories. God’s stories of redemption, conviction, and hope in my life. If one person finds encouragement or turns to Jesus through these words, then it is well with my soul.

All glory to God. He has chosen to use a broken vessel like me. I’m allowed carry forward His good and perfect will.
